Do both parents/guardians need a Lightspeed Parent Portal account?
Either or both parents/guardians may register for a Lightspeed Parent Portal account.
If both parents/guardians create an account, both users will see any Pause web browsing setting applied by the other. The latest Pause web browsing setting applied by either guardian will be the setting that is applied to the student.
Are there restrictions on pausing my child's internet access?
Yes, there are certain restrictions to pausing a student's internet access.
- Pausing internet access is only available on a student's HCPSS-issued laptop and cannot be used on a student's personal devices.
- Pausing internet access will not work when the device is on the HCPSS network. This ensures that students can access any required instructional resources while at school.
How can I pause internet access on my child's device?
After logging in to the Lightspeed Parent Portal, parents/guardians should select Web Rules from the left navigation pane to see a Pause web browsing panel. Toggle on the option and choose an amount of time to pause web browsing, either For 1 hour, For 3 hours, or Until tomorrow morning (defined at 6 a.m.). There may be a delay when updating a setting.
Please note, the option to pause internet access is restricted if student is logged on their device on the HCPSS network (at school or other HCPSS location).
Can I use Lightspeed to monitor my child's usage on any device?
The Lightspeed weekly emails and Lightspeed Parent Portal only show a student's internet usage when using an HCPSS Chromebook, and will not show internet activity on other devices, including mobile phones and personal laptops used at school.
From the Lightspeed report, why can't I go to a link that my child accessed?
The links displayed within the Lightspeed weekly email report and the Lightspeed Parent Portal are the exact links that your child accessed. This may include links to content within Google Drive, Canvas, or other services in which students must authenticate to access the content. Those URLs require student login credentials so parents/guardians are not able to gain access to them.
What is the difference between the Lightspeed Weekly emails and the Lightspeed Parent Portal?
The Lightspeed weekly emails are sent on Sundays, and provide parents/guardians with a summarized report of their student’s HCPSS Chromebook internet usage for the previous week.
