Will my child receive hard copies of assignments during asynchronous days in 2022-2023?
Asynchronous instruction day materials will be posted online and will be able to be accessed using a computer, laptop, tablet, phone or other mobile device. Elementary schools also will have printed copies available.
How will I know if an inclement weather day is being used for asynchronous instruction in 2022-2023?
Students, families, staff and community members will be notified that HCPSS is implementing an asynchronous instruction day the same as all other inclement weather notifications:
Why isn’t HCPSS using synchronous days instead of inclement weather days for 2022-2023?
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) did provide local school systems with the option of using five synchronous instruction days during inclement weather.
HCPSS does not have a 1:1 student-to-device ratio and so is unable to provide synchronous instruction equitably to all students.
Why is HCPSS using asynchronous days for 2022-2023?
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) opened a pathway for local school systems to repurpose up to three inclement weather days as asynchronous instruction days for the 2022–2023 school year.
What if an HCPSS-issued device is lost or stolen?
If a device should be lost or stolen, families should report the incident to their student’s school as soon as possible, and be ready to include details such as date and time of incident, last known location of the device, and a copy of a police report, if applicable.
Lost and stolen devices and power adapters are not part of the one-time forgiveness and families may be charged at the applicable tier rates. Full details are available online.
What if an HCPSS-issued Chromebook is damaged?
Should an HCPSS Chromebook become damaged, students/parents should contact their school administrator.
Families will be provided one-time forgiveness for damaged devices or damaged power adapters. Should another device or power adapter become damaged, families may be held responsible the applicable tier rates.
Complete information on Chromebook responsibilities can be found online.
What should I do if I have a technical problem when taking a Digital Education course?
Students should complete the DEP Issue Reporting Form and a staff member will follow-up with you as soon as possible.
