A resident student whose parents have a contract to build, buy, or lease a home in a different school attendance area other than that of the student’s designated school may request reassignment to a school in the projected attendance area. Families have 90 calendar days from the first date of attendance (e.g., the student’s first day of school) to be settled in their new residence. If the student is not in the projected home within 90 calendar days of the student’s attendance, an extension may be granted.

As part of the parent identification documentation, a signed original, current complete lease or complete deed with your address, valid dates, signatures is required. Howard County residents may find information on obtaining a deed from the Howard County Circuit Court Land Records Department.

If you are not the child’s parent, you must have court-ordered guardianship to register a student in Howard County public schools. Please contact your child's anticipated school for information on acceptable documentation.

Student’s evidence of birth (birth certificate, passport/visa, physician’s certificate, baptismal or church certification, hospital certificate, parent/s affidavit or birth registration) is required for enrollment in Howard County public schools.

Students who have never attended a HCPSS school must be registered by their custodial parent (biological, adoptive, legal guardian).
