Will transportation be provided for Digital Education Center students to participate in after-school activities at their assigned school?

Families will be responsible for providing transportation to and from the home school. Schools may also be able to provide the options for students to participate virtually. In some cases, students in after school activities may be able to utilize the transportation for all students in after school activities.

What does enrollment in the Digital Education Center mean for a student's connection with their assigned school?

The DEC is an education center, which means students will maintain a connection with their designated home school. Students can choose to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics, at that school as schedules and transportation allows. However, students will receive their instruction through the DEC.

Will various course levels (Honors, GT, AP) courses be available in the Digital Education Center?

The DEC is planning on offering a wide range of courses. Similar to course scheduling at all HCPSS schools, the number of courses offered will depend on the courses requested by students enrolling in the DEC as well as DEC staffing. Students will have the opportunity to finalize their schedule with a DEC staff member prior to completing their enrollment in the DEC.

If I already responded “yes” to the Digital Education Center Student Interest form, do I also need to complete the Priority Enrollment form?

The interest form was used to gauge general community interest to help formulate and develop the program. If you want your child to participate in the DEC for the 2021-2022 school year, you will need to complete the priority enrollment form by May 5, 2021.

If I responded “no” to the Digital Education Center Student Interest form, why is the Priority Enrollment form visible to me in Synergy?

The interest form was to gauge interest for planning purposes. HCPSS wants to provide all families the opportunity to complete the priority enrollment form by the May 5, 2021 deadline. If you answered “no” on the interest form, you do not need to complete any additional steps to continue your child’s enrollment at their designated home school for the 2021-2022 school year.

Is the Digital Education Center being offered instead of virtual instruction for the 2021-2022 school year?

The Superintendent and Board of Education members have stressed that they consider the return to normalized, five-day, in-person learning this fall to be essential for the majority of HCPSS students, however, an official decision on the 2021-2022 academic year has not yet been made.
