If my child is reassigned under the BUILD/BUY/LEASE category, is transportation provided?
For current Howard County residents moving within the county: Transportation will not be provided by HCPSS, so parents/guardians must provide transportation unless transportation is included in their child’s IEP or 504 plan.
For nonresidents moving into Howard County: Parents/guardians must provide transportation for their child to and from school.
Dropping your child off at a bus stop or sending your child home on a bus is not permitted.
How many times can I get a BUILD/BUY/LEASE reassignment extension granted?
If you were approved for reassignment under BBL and are not in your new home within 90 calendar days, you can request one extension. If granted, it will be a 90 calendar day extension. Beyond that, no other extensions will be granted. Please contact the Office of Pupil Personnel Services if you are not in your home within the original 90 calendar day window or the extension window.

We moved after the school year started. Can my child finish the school year at their current school?
Yes, every student has the option to complete the current school year at the school in which they are enrolled as long as they moved after the start of the school year. If a family moves out of Howard County, they have the same option, but tuition will be assessed.

How can I find out which school is my child’s designated school?
HCPSS has a school locator online application. Click on School Locator. After you agree to the terms and conditions, enter your address where it says ‘Find address or place’ at the top of the page. Click find and the designated school will pop up.
How will I be notified about the decision for my reassignment request?
You will receive a reassignment determination via email within 45 school (business) days from the date the student reassignment request and supporting documentation are received. The determination may be delayed if supporting documentation was not submitted at the same time as the request form.
