Will all instruction still be virtual or will teachers interact personally with students who are in-person?

For each class, teachers will provide concurrent instruction (teaching both students online and in-person at the same time) for part of the lesson. In most classes, there also will be a period of time dedicated to small group support, in which teachers will work with a smaller group (online and/or in-person) while the remainder of the class works independently.

Will the amount of asynchronous assignments and homework be reduced given the amount of time spent in live instruction will increase?

Students can likely expect less asynchronous assignments than they currently have due to the increase in synchronous instruction that will be provided in the hybrid model. The details of instructional delivery are continuing to be developed.

On Wednesdays, in-person group E (students beginning March 1) will have morning synchronous support at the school. Wednesdays will continue to be a day of asynchronous learning activities for all other students.

What is the HCPSS hybrid model?

The HCPSS Bridge to Normalized Instruction Hybrid Instructional Model summarizes the main facets of the planned transition to a hybrid instructional model that includes in-person, virtual and concurrent instruction and begins on March 1, 2021, as the first stage to the gradual return to normalized instruction.

All aspects of HCPSS’ plans are covered, including instructional components, provisions for student meals and transportation, school building components, and health and safety provisions.

How will HCPSS support students with IEPs when they are in-person?

Students receiving specially designed instruction, including related services, and other supports through an IEP will continue to receive services in accordance with the IEP to the greatest extent possible. Students who have related or support services on their IEP and are attending in person will also receive in person therapy or intervention to the greatest extent possible. If a student is attending hybrid and needs to receive in person therapy/intervention, they may miss some class time as is the case under normal operations.
