How will fall 2020 athletic eligibility be determined?

Students with more than one Incomplete on their 2019-2020 fourth quarter grades, as of September 8, 2020, will not be eligible to participate in fall 2020 athletics. These students also cannot become eligible by turning in work to have their grade changed to a pass between September 8 and September 15.

Students with incomplete grade codes for 2019-2020 fourth quarter due to extenuating circumstances related to the COVID-19 closure may use 2019-2020 third quarter grades to determine fall eligibility, as determined and approved by the principal and the Coordinator of Athletics.

How were individuals selected to participate on the HCPSS Recovery Stakeholder Group?

On June 10, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) released an updated Recovery Plan which mandated each school district establish a Recovery Plan Stakeholder Group that is representative of their schools and community to gather input and recommendations on the reopening plan. HCPSS leadership and the Board of Education collaborated to identify participating members to ensure there is a diverse representation of stakeholder perspectives and experience.

Will 2019-2020 fourth quarter report cards be mailed home?

The 2019-2020 quarter four report cards will not be printed and are available online. Parents/guardians may view/download report cards by taking the following steps:

  3. Select Student’s Report Cards from the middle
  4. Select 2019-2020 Q4 Report Card

Will HCPSS provide free meals during summer 2020?

HCPSS provided free meals this summer through August 28. Meal service will resume Tuesday, September 8 at all school locations, expect Burleigh Manor Middle School and Hammond High School.

The food services program during the 2020-2021 fall semester will consist of Grab-and-Go breakfasts and lunches served Monday through Friday from 8–9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m.

How should staff who are leaving the school system return HCPSS technology devices?

All staff who are leaving the school system must return all HCPSS technology devices and property, including but not limited to Chromebooks and hotspots, to the Logistics Center within a week of the staff member’s last day of work.

Staff will need to bring the device to the HCPSS Logistics Center (9645 Gerwig Lane, Columbia, MD 21046). The building will be open weekdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., through Friday, July 10, with the exception of being closed Friday, July 3. Beginning Monday, July 13, the Logistics Center will be open weekdays from 9-11 a.m.

Will I/my senior child receive refunds for senior dues and meal plans?

Senior Dues Refunds: Several high schools give seniors the opportunity to pay class dues at the beginning of the year to cover the cost of senior year events that typically occur throughout the year. All of the schools who collected senior class dues are preparing to issue refunds for money collected for any events that did not occur this year due to the extended school closure.

How will students return HCPSS property during the 2019-2020 school closures?

Students who will attend an HCPSS school for the 2020-2021 school year and who currently are in possession of school system property—including Chromebooks, band and orchestra instruments, textbooks, media books, or other materials and supplies belonging to HCPSS—should keep the materials until school resumes in school buildings.

Once school resumes in school buildings, students will bring their school system property to whatever school they attend for collection and redistribution.
