If you notice your child on non-academic sites during the school day, we recommend:
- Have a Conversation: Ask them why they are accessing non-academic websites during school hours. Understand their perspective and listen to their reasons without judgment.
- Educate About Responsibility: Explain to your child the importance of prioritizing academic activities during school hours. Help them understand the consequences of neglecting their schoolwork and the impact it can have on their academic performance.
- Set Clear Expectations: Establish clear rules and expectations regarding internet usage during school hours. Communicate what is and isn't allowed, and the consequences for violating these rules.
- Work with the School: If the problem persists, reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss the issue. They may have additional resources or strategies to address the situation effectively.
- Address Underlying Issues: Sometimes, excessive internet use during school hours may be a symptom of underlying issues such as boredom, stress, or difficulty with academic tasks. Address any underlying issues your child may be facing and provide support as needed.
