Hammond ES is crowded—why is it not included in the scope?

There are other schools (besides Bryant Woods ES and Centennial Lane ES) utilized above 110% in the system, and the recommended strategies to address them are outlined in the 2024 Feasibility Study. They include capital projects to add capacity, and boundary review to take advantage of new or existing capacity.

Hammond ES (HES) is expected to be utilized between 112% and 122% for the next ten years and will need approximately 150 seats of additional capacity. The near-term strategy recommended in the 2024 Feasibility Study was to place five additional portables in the summer of 2024, and to consider redistricting to use available capacity at Gorman Crossing ES (GCES). It was estimated that GCES would have 70 seats of available capacity for the 2024-25 school year, increasing to 130 in 2033. Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year was 40 students higher than expected, resulting in less available capacity in the near term, and expectations for the long term will be adjusted as well.

Due to the higher than anticipated enrollment and the lack of available capacity in any other adjacent schools, redistricting is not a viable option to relieve the high utilization at HES. The recommended strategy to address the high utilization at HES and other elementary schools in the southeast is to construct a new elementary school in this area and redistrict to utilize the new capacity.
