My child received reassignment under the employee benefit, but there has been/will be a change in my work assignment. Can my child stay at the current school next year?

Please notify the Office of Pupil Personnel Services if:

  • You no longer work for HCPSS
  • If you move in or out of Howard County after an approval was issued
  • If your work location/assignment changes

If you stop working for HCPSS during the school year, you can choose to transfer your child to their designated school at that time or they can complete the current school year. They must attend their designated school the following school year.

If you move in or out of Howard County after an approval was issued, payroll deductions may need to stop or start depending on the situation.

If your work location changes due to a voluntary transfer, then your child will either need to return to their designated school or you will need to reapply for reassignment and choose a school within the feeder pattern cluster for your new work location.

If your work location changes due to an administrative transfer or involuntary transfer and if your child has already been approved for reassignment, then they may attend the reassigned school and the associated feeder cluster schools throughout their entire education as long as you remain a HCPSS school-based employee. Both things must be true in order for your child to remain at their reassigned school.
