What criteria are used to determine Early Admission to Kindergarten decisions?

Each applicant is assessed in a standardized manner using the same criteria to evaluate readiness. In accordance with Howard County Public School System’s Policy 9000, students admitted early to kindergarten must demonstrate an exceptionally high degree of skills and readiness to begin kindergarten a full year before the state-established age of entry (i.e., five by September 1).

The Early Admission to Kindergarten process includes measures to determine each child’s mastery of knowledge, skills, and behaviors in areas of Language & Literacy, Mathematics, Physical Well-Being & Motor Development, and Social Foundations.
