How are cases of COVID-19 handled when they occur in a prekindergarten classroom?

Note: This help topic is out of date and currently archived.

Update: Dec. 31, 2021

The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) treats positive cases in the prekindergarten program as it would a daycare setting, closing the affected classrooms for a minimum of 5 days.

When there is a positive case in a pre-K classroom, HCHD is in contact with parents/guardians of all quarantining students for contact tracing. Parents/guardians are encouraged to answer the phone if contacted, or call the Health Department back as quickly as possible. If you are contacted by a contact tracer, they will provide information about the viral progression and offer guidance about quarantining.
