The Howard County Board of Education has revised the academic eligibility standards for participation in fall athletics and extracurricular activities.

Effective immediately, and continuing through the first quarter, students are eligible to participate in fall athletics and extracurricular activities for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year if they:

  • Maintain a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA), calculated using credit or non-credit courses, and have no more than one failing grade, OR
  • Have been promoted to the next grade level or higher

This adjustment will expire at the end of the fall season of the 2021-2022 school year.

Beginning with the winter season, students must meet the following standards in order to remain eligible to participate in extracurricular activities:

  • Maintain a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA), calculated using credit or non-credit courses, AND
  • Have no more than one failing grade for the marking period which governs eligibility for that activity

Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions regarding their eligibility for fall athletics.
